Legend has it that Hemingway was once challenged to write a story in only six words. His response? “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.” Last year, SMITH Magazine challenged their readers to write their own six-word memoirs. They sent in short life stories in droves, from the bittersweet (“Cursed with cancer, blessed with friends”) and poignant (“I still make coffee for two”) to the inspirational (“Business school? Bah! Pop music? Hurrah”) and hilarious (“I like big butts, can’t lie”). You can read more about it at
here.
I first read about this on
Gem's blogspot, and decided to give it a try, myself. I encourage you to try it too. If you're like me, your mind will go in a dozen directions, but you'll have to be selective in order to tell your life story in only six words. Be sure to post your stories here, in the comments area, so everyone can read them.
Here is mine, a mere six words after this lengthy introduction:
Career winding down. Good times ahead.

(Linda has such fun ideas!!)
Here is mine, "borrowed" from an old hymn title that many will, no doubt, recognize.

This world is not my home.

(Yes, I am usually such a smart mouth but we have had two funerals of friends in two days.)

Great one, Gloria! Thanks for participating.
Another one I was toying with was:
Waited years for grandkids. Then Clara!
OK, Linda. It's 6 minutes and 60 different mind directions later, and this is not so fun anymore. It's an addiction. Once one starts thinking in 6 word stories one CAN'T quit!! Help!!

Linda opened a can of worms!!

GR (again..hee hee...come on guys...let's hear some!!)
Tee hee! Gloria, you're funny. Yes, it's HARD to get my readers to participate. But you're setting a good example. You're "teacher's pet" today.
Actually, your last one, "Linda opened a can of worms," is, indeed, a summary of my entire life!
Hey, that one abut Sweetpea was a great one!!
I could totally do this...when we see each other don't expect more than six words out of me at a time. Yeah, right! Like that's gonna happen! (Hmmmm...Ken just might like this new six word verbally challenged me.) Here's Ken's.
I REALLY like her this way!
GR (OK, I am so outta here????)
(Fun, Linda..really funny. See, it doesn't take much to amuse me.)
